Route 66 is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Internist to establish and grow an Internal Medicine service within an established 24/7 emergency hospital. Since opening in 2015, Route 66 has built a strong reputation in the Albuquerque community and developed lasting relationships with referring veterinarians throughout the region.
This is an opportunity to shape a new service while stepping into an established hospital with a strong emergency caseload, experienced team, and growing specialty presence. You'll have the autonomy to help shape your service, clinical interests, equipment, and workflows while collaborating with Emergency Medicine and other developing specialty services.

In your day-to-day, you will:
• Establish and develop Route 66's Internal Medicine service.
• Manage a diverse Internal Medicine caseload within an established 24/7 emergency hospital.
• Develop diagnostic and treatment protocols based on your clinical interests and expertise.
• Collaborate closely with Emergency Medicine and other specialty services as they continue to grow.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic capabilities including digital radiology, ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, and other in-house diagnostics.
• Build strong relationships with referring veterinarians throughout Albuquerque and the surrounding region.
• Help shape equipment purchases, workflows, scheduling, and future service development.
• Participate in mentorship, continuing education, and professional development opportunities through Ethos Veterinary Health.
• Explore opportunities to participate in clinical research through the Ethos network.
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
• Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Residency Trained in Internal Medicine.
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills with a passion for complex medical cases.
• An entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for developing a specialty service.
• Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
