Schedule: 4-day work week (set schedule with no new cases or transfers on weekends)

We are seeking a second board-certified or residency-trained Medical Oncologist to help meet increasing demand while building upon a well-established specialty practice known for outstanding patient care and strong relationships with referring veterinarians.
Collaboration is central to how we practice medicine. You'll work closely with specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Radiation Oncology, Advanced Imaging, and Emergency & Critical Care through our partnership with Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC). Our doctors regularly participate in interactive morning rounds, journal clubs, multidisciplinary case discussions, and monthly educational sessions, creating an environment where learning and collaboration are part of everyday practice.
AVIM&O is deeply committed to mentorship and professional development. We actively support veterinary students, interns, and residents and recently welcomed our first Internal Medicine Resident. The addition of a board-certified radiologist further strengthens our specialty services and creates additional opportunities for collaboration.
Our oncology service is supported by dedicated chemotherapy-trained technicians and an experienced clinical team, allowing you to focus on delivering exceptional patient care while maintaining a predictable schedule and quality of life.

The anticipated starting base salary range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $200,000 to $230,000 per year.
In your day-to-day, you will:
• Deliver advanced oncology care to patients with a wide range of cancer diagnoses, developing individualized treatment plans focused on quality of life and clinical outcomes.
• Manage oncology cases in close collaboration with Internal Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, and other specialty teams to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary care.
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and support the safe delivery of oncology treatments while ensuring compliance with USP 800 safety standards.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic and treatment resources including CT, MRI, advanced imaging, and radiation oncology services to support treatment planning and patient management.
• Support daily client communication, including treatment updates, prescription refills, follow-up discussions, and timely triage of client questions throughout the patient's care journey.
• Build trusted referral relationships through collaborative case management, consultation, and exceptional communication with referring veterinarians.
• Guide pet owners through complex diagnoses and treatment decisions with empathy, transparency, and confidence.
• Mentor chemotherapy-trained technicians, assistants, interns, and support staff while fostering a collaborative and educational clinical environment.
• Pursue opportunities to expand your expertise through ultrasound training, electrochemotherapy (ECT) training, clinical trial coordination, and other emerging areas of veterinary oncology.
• Participate in rounds, journal clubs, case discussions, and continuing education initiatives that support both individual growth and hospital-wide excellence.
• Contribute to a culture of collaboration, mentorship, innovation, and exceptional patient care.
What You Bring
• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
• Board Certification in Medical Oncology (DACVIM-Oncology) or Residency Trained in Medical Oncology.
• Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
